How to Plan The Best Holiday to Fiji

1. Make a hit list ahead of time.
Fiji has a lot to offer, but unless you have an unlimited amount of time, you’ll probably have to pick and choose your activities.
Get together with your travel companions, whether your sweetheart, your family, or your buddies, and find out what activities everyone has in mind. If you need ideas, take a look at our list of Activities for Adventurers.
After you’ve got a list, sort it by priority and work out a flexible schedule for your trip. If you choose to stay at a resort like Raiwasa, talk with the staff about helping you book your activities.
2. Pick the right time for your hit list.
Depending on what you’d like to do, the time that you choose to visit Fiji matters.
For divers, an important consideration is the time of month that you go. The Great White Wall, which is one of the top dive sites in the world, has a strong current. The current is so strong, in fact, that it’s not diveable most of the month. There are actually only four to five days every month in which you can go; two days at each half moon phase.
If you decide to hunt for the Tagimaucia flower, you might want to go when it’s blooming: October through December.
To beat crowds, avoid July through September. If that’s the only time you can go, keep in mind that booking to Taveuni or any of the smaller islands won’t be crazy busy even during the “high season.”
If you’re looking for sunny days at the beach, you might not want to book between November and April, which is “typhoon season.”
3. Get your tickets as far in advance as possible.
You want to book at least 6 weeks in advance, but the cheapest flights will be months in advance. Read our tips on Finding the Cheapest Flight to Fiji.
4. Consider an all inclusive resort package.
It’s a great way to get the most bang for your buck and ensure a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you’re unsure about whether this might be a good choice for your needs, check out our post Why a Private Villa or take our quiz to see if an all inclusive package is for you.
5. If you want to do some shopping for souvenirs, plan a day in Nadi or Suva right before your return flight out of Fiji.
You won’t find much for sale in lower-concentration areas, and you don’t want to carry souvenirs around with you during your stay. If you don’t have the time for a day in Suva, you can grab a few things at the airport on your way out.
6. Get ready for “Fiji time!”
Everything is slower and more relaxed when you’re on an island in the Pacific, so grab your flexible schedule from #1 and let go of any rat race tendencies you may use to survive back at home. Remember, you’re going to Fiji to relax and have fun!
