Take a Trip to the Lau Islands

Time spent on the Lau Islands isn’t going to include the lavish restaurants or sophisticated accommodation that you can find elsewhere in Fiji, but the Lau Islands remain virtually untouched by development and modern infrastructure. Despite the remoteness of the Lau Islands, you can still expect a warm Fijian welcome and hospitality during your stay.

Due to geography, this group of islands in Fiji’s far east have retained a great deal of traditional culture and unspoiled tropical jungle. Here visitors are given a glimpse of Fiji that is rarely seen by outsiders. In addition to offering a unique look at Fiji’s traditional culture, the Lau Islands are incredibly beautiful. It is a pristine version of Fiji, in more ways than one.

Find a Deserted Stretch of Sand

As you travel the Fiji archipelago you are certain to see a few popular beaches. In true Fiji fashion, these public beaches have white sand and lightly lapping waves that can be enjoyed for days on end, but smaller beaches are also found throughout Fiji. Hike to Tavoro Waterfalls

Found on Fiji’s third-largest island, Bouma National Heritage Park is home to all sorts of wonders, but the standout is the Tavoro Waterfalls. There are three waterfalls found along this day hike, with the first found only fifteen minutes from the parking lot. In addition to the awe-inspiring rush of water, each of the Tavoro Falls has a rock pool for a quick dip. It makes for the perfect jungle adventure.

A number of guests choose to hike the Tavoro Falls on their own, but at Raiwasa Private Resort we recommend visitors hire a guide, in particular those visitors that want to make it to the third waterfall. As you cover the stretch of tropical jungle from waterfall to waterfall, you see a whole new side of Fiji’s beauty – the lush jungle that is featured on fewer postcards, but just as incredible.

 Do a Scuba Dive Excursion

Scuba dive enthusiasts flock to Fiji for a reason. Just off these islands is a diversity and quantity of sea life that is seen in few other places in the world. Not only does Fiji provide visitors a chance to see turtles, dolphins and reef sharks, but there is an abundance of brightly colored corals and plethora of smaller marine animals that will delight experienced and new divers. It is truly a gift to dive in Fiji’s Rainbow reef or other tropical waters, and a trip to Fiji would be incomplete without this precious time under the water.

New to scuba? While there are some challenging dive sites around the Fijian archipelago, there is plenty of opportunity for a beginner.
