Hiking Adventures on the Fiji Islands

There are so many beautiful places in Fiji, and one of the best way to experience all the wonder the islands have to offer is via a day of hiking. Although Fiji is best known for its sandy beaches and the opportunities it provides to relax and get away from work and stress, if you are an outdoorsy person who loves communing with nature you will not want to miss out on the many popular hikes the beautiful Fiji islands have to offer.
Skill level is no obstacle, as there are both easier hikes and more challenging ones. Your Fiji resort can advise you as to a good route for your skill level or put you in contact with an organized group excursion if that’s your preference. No matter what you choose, you’re sure to see some remarkable sights and have a wonderful time in the wilds of Fiji.
Mount Tomavini
If you’re up for a challenge, head over to the island of Viti Levu for a six hour climb to the top of Fiji’s tallest mountain. Mount Tomavini is classified as a difficult hike thanks to its steep summit, but experienced hikers will be able to make the journey in a single day and be back by the resort pool in time to soak up some rays before dinner. For a little extra help, consider hiring a guide from the Navai village at the base of this dormant volcano to lead you to the top. Once you reach the peak, you’ll be glad you did—the views are absolutely unparalleled.
Tavoro Falls
If you’re in the mood for jungle terrain instead of mountains, make your way to Bouma National Heritage Park on Taveuni and experience the Tavoro Waterfalls hike. Your journey will take you past three waterfalls, and if you’re looking for a hike that will allow you to pause and swim on your way, you’ve found your match. The Tavoro Falls hike can be challenging—you’ll have to deal with overgrown forest paths and stream crossings with uncertain footing—but it isn’t considered as difficult as Tomavini. If you are moderately confident in your ability on a hike, you should be able to handle it.
Lavena Coastal Walk
Looking for a relaxing hike? The Lavena Coastal Walk might be perfect for you. Less physically taxing than Tavoro or Tomavini, this walk is relatively flat and provides plenty of opportunities to stop for a dip or simply to take in the view. The Lavena Coastal Walk is located on Taveuni and requires you to hire a guide from the local village.
