Taveuni Island Weather: The Best Time of Year to Visit Fiji

One of the best aspects of a vacation in Fiji is the weather. Any time of year, temperatures across the archipelago are perfect for a relaxing beach or poolside holiday, and it is impossible to pick a bad month to visit Taveuni or the other islands. Yet, a question we frequently receive from first-time guests at Raiwasa is: what is the best time of year to visit Fiji?

While asked often, the team at Raiwasa is hesitant to provide a definitive answer because the truthful answer is… it depends. For every calendar month and change of season there is a new reason to visit Taveuni and appreciate the Taveuni island weather. Deciding on the best time of year to visit is personal and subjective. However, over the years we have learned a lot about the climate, weather, and seasons on Taveuni, and we are excited to share our insights with future guests at Raiwasa.

Best Time of Year: To Flee Winter’s Cold

From November through March many places in the Northern Hemisphere become blustery, crisp, and cold. This can be perfect for a ski vacation, but hardly ideal for sitting on a white-sand beach. The frigid temperatures north of the equator make the winter months a fantastic time to pick Fiji for your relaxing getaway or annual escape from sleet and below zero temperatures.

The months from November through April are the warmest part of the year on Taveuni, with an average temperature of 87°F, but the average temperature in Fiji hardly fluctuates throughout the year. In fact, the difference between the hottest months on Taveuni is only an average nine degrees higher than the coolest month, which is August.

Best Time of Year: To See Taveuni’s Jungle

Without a doubt the jungle is at its best after a steady and sufficient rain. This is when the flora becomes the most colorful and the plants put on their greenest show. And the longer it rains, the more the tropical jungle on Taveuni comes to life. The rain rejuvenates this precious ecosystem, and many guests find that the tropical rains on Taveuni, likewise, rejuvenate their spirit.

Unlike many places in the world that simply turn gray and gloomy, Taveuni is cloudy with purpose. In the months of December, January, February and March a dark sky is a sure sign of a cleansing and refreshing rain that will dampen the heat and bring new life to the island. If you are interested in seeing the island at its most green and vibrant, these are the months to visit, and the island is also quieter during these months, for a stay that is truly away from it all.

We can hardly wait for you to experience the incredible beauty of watching a rainstorm from Raiwasa’s cliffside location; it’s impressive and magical.

The Best Time of Year: For Sunny Skies

It is becoming more difficult to exactly predict the periods of rain and sunshine on Taveuni; as elsewhere in the world the Taveuni island weather is changing in pattern and precision. Today, it is possible that any week of the year could be filled with bright sunshine and cloudless skies, and this is becoming more normal in the warmer months of November and March. But historically, the driest months of the year were April through October.

An added bonus is that despite the sunny skies, the months of June through September are also somewhat cooler than other times of the year. This can make sunbathing and outdoor activities more enjoyable, as the both the humidity and temperature are lower than at the height of Fiji’s “summer” in January and February.

The Best Time of Year: To Experience the Real Fiji

Anytime. The beauty of Fiji lies in the natural wonders found deep in the jungle, among the South Pacific reefs, and in the hearts and souls of the local people.
