6 Hidden Fees NOT Included in Fiji All Inclusive Resorts

When searching for an all inclusive resort in Fiji, do you ever wonder what’s included? If you suspect that your vacation may cost a little more than the advertised price, your suspicions are well founded. Here are some fees you might get billed extra for.

    1. Food and Alcohol

You’re promised three meals a day, but if you want more than that, if you want your meals at odd hours, or you want the best item on the menu, you might see an extra charge on your bill. Likewise, what you choose to sip on at dinner might cost you more.

    2. Internet Access

Thinking of having a “work-cation” and answering emails from the poolside at your Fiji all inclusive resort? Want to post Fiji vacation photos to Facebook or Instagram during your downtime? Unfortunately, wifi might not be included.

    3. Activities and Excursions

Fiji has much more to offer than lovely beaches. Yet laying on the beach might be the only activity included in your all inclusive resort. While most resorts will help you book your extra activities, including scuba diving, horse-back riding, and hiking, they don’t necessarily include those activities in their regular fees. In fact, you might pay the same price or more for each activity you choose to book through your resort.

    4. Massage and Spa Treatments

If Fiji’s charm doesn’t have you relaxed and recovered enough, a spa treatment might do the trick. Like activities and internet, you’ll likely pay extra for any massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, and body wraps you receive.

    5. Vehicle Rental or Taxi Service

If you want to get out and explore the island during your stay in Fiji, you might have to plan on making arrangements to rent a car. Not all Fiji resorts have transportation services, nor are they within walking distance of other transportation services. Even rides to and from the airport may not be included.

    6. “Resort fee” or “Convenience fee”

Some all inclusive resorts also charge an extra fee called a “resort fee” or “convenience fee.” This fee is likely not included in advertised prices, and may cost you up to $30 extra per night. This practice is legal and practiced among many hotels and resorts worldwide. The fee is often said to cover “extra expenses” such as copies of newspapers, laundry services, and access to the pool.

According to Bjorn Hanson, the dean of New York University’s hospitality, tourism and sports management program, “Fees like these have become the normal practice.”

Before booking your all inclusive Fiji resort, ask them what’s included. If any of the hidden fees above would affect you greatly, be sure to ask about them specifically. Don’t assume that the advertised activities and amenities are included.
